Made for the solo exhibition No One Has Taught Us More Than John at Magician Space.
A white freestanding door stands in the gallery, its surface fitted with a VR headset at eye level. The viewer first meets the door as an object, then looks through it as an optical device. Inside the headset, the image opens onto a 360° rendered scene where a synthetic landscape, skeletal color lines, and room-like thresholds replace ordinary exhibition depth. The work turns entry into a visible operation: to access the image, the body must stand before a door that is already both prop, screen, and interface.
Process notes
I treat the headset as one more box in a chain of boxes — camera, engine, headset, room, viewer — each promising access while the image stays governed by whatever rules generated it. Standing at the door you are not so much immersed as processed: the system tells you it had given you only a 67% chance, asks you to pick up the controller, and at some point offers the prompt ACCEPT ENGINE RENDERING STANDARD. To go through, the body bends and agrees, and even refusal turns out to be a formatted option. By the end the engine has stopped rendering the world and started rendering John — seen inside the box while you stay outside it.
